Plumber in El Cajon, CA — Drain Cleaning, Leak Detection & Sewer Repair
El Cajon sits in a valley, and valleys collect things — runoff, sediment, and a lot of housing built across several very different decades. That mix is why our El Cajon call sheet does not look like our coastal one. Here it is drains first, then water heaters, then leaks: kitchen and main lines that block on grease and root hair, tankless units furred up with scale, and supply leaks that hide under slab until the bill gives them away. Blue Planet Plumbing runs El Cajon and the East County 24/7 with camera, jetter and leak-detection gear on the truck. Call (858) 914-4696.
What we get called out for in El Cajon
Drain cleaning and clogged drain repair
The biggest single category here by a distance. Kitchen lines, laundry standpipes, tub and shower stoppages, and main-line backups. We clear it, then camera it if it has happened before — a drain that reblocks inside a year is telling you about the pipe, not about the clog. Start at drain cleaning or go straight to drain pipe repair.
Tankless water heater installation, repair and descaling
East County water is hard, and a tankless heat exchanger is the first thing to notice. Error codes, short cycling, and a unit that will not hold temperature are usually scale rather than failure. We descale, repair and install. See tankless water heaters and storage water heaters.
Water leak detection
A meter that creeps with every fixture closed, a bill that jumped for no reason, or the sound of water running in a quiet house. We locate electronically and open only what has to be opened. See electronic leak detection.
Sewage backups — and who handles what
If raw sewage has come back up into a tub, a floor drain or a garage, there are two separate jobs and it is worth being straight about them. Ours is the plumbing one: find why the line stopped, clear it, camera it, and repair or replace whatever caused it so it does not happen again. The other job is remediation — extraction, sanitising and drying of contaminated flooring, drywall and contents — which is specialist restoration work and usually an insurance claim. We will tell you plainly which parts we are doing, get the line flowing so nothing else comes back, and say so if you need a restoration contractor alongside us. Call (858) 914-4696.
Hydro jetting
For lines carrying grease, sediment or root hair, a jetter scours the pipe wall back to full bore where a cable only bores through the middle. See hydro jetting.
Slab leak detection and repair
Warm spots on the floor, hairline cracks that were not there last year, and a water heater running more than it should. See slab leak repair.
Sewer line replacement, repair and installation
Older El Cajon laterals, offset clay joints and root intrusion. Where the run allows it, no-dig is the cheaper answer once you count the driveway and planting: trenchless sewer replacement in El Cajon. Otherwise sewer cleaning and rooter service and sewer line repair. We camera first — see sewer camera inspections.
Pressure regulators and booster pumps
Hammering pipes, a toilet that will not stop refilling, or fixtures that have gone weak across the whole house. That is usually a failed pressure-reducing valve, and it is a small job that prevents large ones. See pipe repair and replacement.
El Cajon is served by two districts, and hard water is the common denominator
El Cajon’s water comes from two different agencies depending on where you are: the Helix Water District serves much of the city, while parts of the East County area fall under Padre Dam Municipal Water District. Both draw on imported Colorado River and State Project supplies, and both deliver water that is hard by any normal standard.
Hard water is the reason we get called out to El Cajon for the same three jobs over and over: tankless units that need descaling because the heat exchanger has furred up, storage water heaters that rumble and run out early because the tank floor is carpeted in sediment, and shower valves and cartridges that seize because minerals have built up on the seat. It is also a quiet contributor to slow drains, because scale gives grease and hair something to catch on.
Descaling is a service call. Replacement is a project. More on the chemistry: hard water in San Diego and whole-house filtration and conditioning. Call (858) 914-4696 and keep it a service call.

Water leak detection and slab leaks in El Cajon
Leak work is a large part of what we do in El Cajon, and it splits into two questions: is there definitely a leak, and where is it. The first is answered at the meter — everything in the house off, then watch the low-flow indicator. If it keeps turning, water is leaving the system somewhere it should not be.
The second is answered by narrowing. Isolating the irrigation and re-reading the meter separates the yard from the house. Isolating the water heater separates the hot side from the cold. Each valve closed takes a system out of suspicion, and what is left is the run carrying the loss.
Only then do we pinpoint, using acoustic equipment that listens for the sound a pressurised leak makes through concrete and soil, and thermal imaging that picks up the heat signature of a hot line under a slab. The point of the sequence is that the floor gets opened once, in the right place. Our leak detection and slab leak repair pages set out what happens next.
We have carried out electronic leak detection and sewer main line reroute work in El Cajon, and both are in our project log. If what you can smell is gas rather than water, leave the building and call the gas utility first, then call us — our gas line repiping page covers the gas pipework we repair and replace.
